R E F L E C T I O N
Over the summer months I have been trying to search and really think deeply about which direction I want to head in terms of textiles and possibly my future career. After my one on one session with one of the tutors at the end of Unit X, I was told to ponder over a couple of things before I began my second year. These questions were personal to me and so a couple of these thoughts were: Is it craft I enjoy the most? Do I like embellishing and embroidery or would I rather design interior furnishings for instance? Is it textiles for fashion which I enjoy? Or perhaps print ? At the end of L4 I really enjoyed the whole year of doing what I love best. However I was left feeling rather confused about where I wanted to go as I enjoy learning new things so much. I would still really love to be given a chance to try weave as I think it may be useful in the direction I would like to head.
In terms of practice, I think I mostly enjoy embroidery and embellishing, I love texture and this is why I also want to try weaving. I do however, also enjoy designing prints however I don't particularly enjoy the physical process of printing. I therefore think id like to combine these processes into the second year.

The summer break has really helped me to figure myself out and I feel a lot more positive about the direction of textiles I want to go in. After weeks of procrastination I started to identify practitioners/ brands that I feel work in a similar way to me and for a similar audience. One of the main brands is Zara Home. I have been aware of Zara in terms of fashion for a very long time, but only recently I discovered that they had a home section aswell. I started to look into their products and some of the designs and I found that I felt my style and work would fit with Zara really well. Additionally, Zara is an international company which embraces cultural designs and ethnic diversity, which I love.
Below are some examples of Zara home designs which I feel are similar to my own work

To help me find other practitioners that I feel are going in the same direction as me, I compiled a small list of phrases/ words.
